IN MEMORIAM: Patricia A. Allen, 82;

SUNY Oneonta Department Secretary

ONEONTA – Patricia A. Allen, 82, retired secretary at SUNY Oneonta’s Speech & Theatre Department, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Bassett Hospital.

She was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Mount Kisco, the daughter of the late George C. and Marie (Hanley) Supple.  Pat graduated from Somers High School, attended SUNY Oneonta and was a Katharine Gibbs graduate. She then worked at General Foods in White Plains.

On August 18, 1962, Patricia married Floyd C. Allen. Following their marriage, they settled in Oneonta. Floyd predeceased her on October 11, 1991.

Family was very important to her. While her boys were growing up, Pat was involved with Pee Wee Football, Oneonta Little League where she was the head of the Women’s Little League Auxiliary, the OHS Booster Club and she was the den mother for Cub scouts.

She enjoyed making jam.

Pat was a member of St. Mary’s Church where she served on the parish council and was a member of the Young at Heart Group. She was also a member of the CSEA.

Patricia is survived by her three sons, Scott Allen of Oneonta, George Allen and Beth Murwin of Oneonta, and Mark Allen and Melissa Patterson of Lockport; one granddaughter, Amanda Allen of Lockport; one sister, Marie Hawes of West Redding, Conn.; two brothers, George C. and Grace Supple of Rochester and John H. and Diane Supple of Lincolndale; one sister-in-law, Mary and Bill Miller of Windsor; as well as several nieces and nephews; special friends, Joyce and Larry Guzy of Oneonta, Eddie and Joanne Johnston of Oneonta, Les and Lenore Foster of Oneonta; neighbor, Carol Kirkey of Oneonta and the many other friends of Pat’s.

Thanks to the many caregivers, Pat was able to remain in her own home until her death.

Calling hours are 6-8 p.m. Monday, May 22, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.  The funeral mass will be at 10:15 p.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s, Walnut Street, Oneonta. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations in Patricia’s memory are asked to be made to either City of Oneonta Ambulance, Main Street, Oneonta, New York 13820 or Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, New York 13820 or to the charity of one’s choice.
