IN MEMORIAM:  Mary Pier, 86; Schenevus;

For Years, Ran M&R Grocery With Husband

SCHENEVUS – Mary L. Pier, 86, who operated the M&R Grocery here for many years with husband Rich, passed away peacefully July 4, 2018, at the Wilkinson Residential Health Care in Amsterdam.

She was born June 23, 1932 in Schenevus, the daughter of Charles and Louise (Nellis) Hubbard.  She married Richmond Pier on June 7, 1952 at the Schenevus United Methodist Church.

Mary was a life-long resident of Schenevus, graduating from Andrew S. Draper Central School. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

She and her husband, Rich were the owners of M & R Grocery in Schenevus for many years. Mary ran a day care from her home for many years.  “Mom-mom” cared for over 200 children during this time.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking and putting together doll houses for Greenleaf display models and personally.

She is survived by her children, Carol VanEtten and Jerry Fabiano of Johnstown, Deb and Bill Mason of New Lisbon, Chris and Jim Trask of Schenevus and Corey and Jen Pier of Worcester; grandchildren, Kelly and Tom, Michael and Christi, CJ and Stephanie, Erin, Jessica, Jimmy and Kayla, Landon and Carter; great-grandchildren, Roza, Noah, Devon, and Gabe; her sister, Emilie and Bud Stillwell; and many nieces and nephews.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, Rich on March 8, 2000; her daughter, Connie; her sister and her brothers.

Calling hours will be 12:30 to 2 p.m. with the service starting at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2018 at the Heller & Skinner Funeral Home, 155 Main St., Worcester, with the Rev. Judith A. Thistle, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Schenevus Cemetery.
