No Data Breached, IT Director Reports

COOPERSTOWN – The Otsego County Government network has experienced a significant cyber attack believed to be due to a “zero-day”* vulnerability, Brian Pokorny, director/information technology, announced a few minutes ago.

In an abundance of caution, the county’s website, as well as some other services, have been taken offline and are undergoing a rigorous security review, he said.

Otsego County IT resources are working in conjunction with state and federal resources to restore services and identify perpetrators.

At this time, there is no indication that citizen data was accessed or exposed.  In addition, there is no evidence to suggest we were specifically targeted because we are a government entity, Pokorny said.

* The term “zero-day” comes from the fact that the vulnerability has yet to be fixed by security professionals such as anti-virus companies and operating system developers.
