IN MEMORIAM: Gregory P. Savage, 70;

Retired Submariner, Hartwick Music Grad

ONEONTA – Gregory Philip Savage,  70, of Cleveland, Ohio, a Hartwick College music major and retired submariner, died in his home peacefully on Dec. 21.  Survivors include his wife in Oneonta.

Gregory was born on Nov. 6, 1948, in Hudson, the son of the late Evelyn and Philip Savage . He grew up in Stuyvesant, and graduated from Ichabod Crane High School.

He attended Hartwick College as a music major. While attending there he also directed the choir at Elm Park Methodist Church.

In 1970, he enlisted in the Navy, serving his country for 20 years in the submarine fleet.  After retiring as a chief electrical petty officer, he worked at Cook Nuclear Plant in Michigan for 13 years.

He then went back to the love of music and took his talent to creating wedding videos owner of Digital Memories Video until 2017.   

Besides his wife of 47 years, Eleanor Beach Savage of Oneonta, survivors include his son Christopher and wife Rosa of Boca Raton, Fla., daughter Nicole Alysse and husband Brian of Lakewood, Ohio, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is his sister Shannon M. Savage of Amsterdam.

A celebration of life for Gregory will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday Dec. 29, at Elm Park Methodist Church, 401 Chestnut St., Oneonta, with Rev. Donna Martin, pastor, officiating.
