IN MEMORIAM:  Michael McCafferty, 73,

West Oneonta; Marine, Psychotherapist

WEST ONEONTA- Michael Patrick McCafferty, 73, a Marine and psychotherapist, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2019, at home with his family by his side.

He was born Feb. 22, 1945, in Staten Island, the son of the late Thomas and Esther (Lynn) McCafferty.

Michael served his country in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged.

Michael spent his career as a psychotherapist/counselor helping others.  His specialty was trauma victims.  He coined himself a warrior and helped people find that in themselves.

He was an expert stone and wood craftsman and loved nature.  In his later years he enjoyed taking care of his four dogs, the birds and the squirrels.

Michael is survived by his son, Connor McCafferty of Portland, Ore.; brother, N.C.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be  6-8 p.m.Thursday, Jan. 10, in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta.
