IN MEMORIAM: Alice A. Pier, 89;

NYC Native Moved Here As Teenager

Alice A. Pier

MILFORD — Alice A. Pier, 89, a New York City native who lived in Otsego County since her teenage years, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019.

Alice was born on March 12, 1930, in New York City, the daughter of Michael and Marian Padula.

In her teenage years, Alice moved to the Schenevus area and was primarily an Otsego County resident thereafter (Hartwick and Milford).

Alice was married to her lifelong love, Donald Pier Sr. for nearly 60 years until his passing in 2008.

She is survived by sons, Don Jr. (Christine), David and Dwight (Eileen); daughter Denise (Lew); grandchildren, Don III, Shawn, Bethany, Katrina, Rachel, David, Trevor and Michelle; and seven great-grandchildren.

Alice was a devoted wife and mother. While a homemaker for many years, she was also an employee of Bassett Hospital and a successful liquor and wine retailer for some 20 years.

Family and friends are invited to honor Alice’s life at Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta.
Calling hours will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22. A Mass to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Mary’s Church, 34 Walnut St., Oneonta, followed by a reception across the street.

Donations in memory of Alice are requested to be made to Susquehanna SPCA, 4841 NY-28, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

Arrangements are by the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home of Oneonta.

  1. God Bless and prayers for Dwight and the rest of the family. I remember Alice coming into Emily Lawrence where I worked; she was so beautiful and fun. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. I went to OHS with Dwight. Pamela Ventre
