Big Weekend’s Start

The Hall of Fame’s BASE Race is underway at this hour through the streets of Cooperstown, signalling the start of busy Memorial Day Weekend 2018. The Hall of Fame Classic in historic Doubleday Field, featuring Major League players, beginning at 1:05. Monday, the 40-mile General Clinton Regatta departs Brookwood Point, Bainbridge bound, at 6 a.m.  Memorial Day parades begin in Cooperstown at 10:50 a.m. to a commemoration at the Soldiers & Sailors Monument at the county courthouse; in Oneonta, the parade begins at noon on Main Street, bound for a commemoration at Veterans Memorial Walkway in Neahwa Park.  (Jim Kevlin/AllOTSEGO.com)

Killer Knapp Dies In Prison; Guilty In SUNY Coed’s Death ONEONTA – Ricky Knapp, the man convicted of the 1977 death of SUNY Oneonta student, has died in Mohawk Correctional Facility, according to prison records. Knapp, 66, died March 8, having served 40 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a 1978 manslaughter conviction in the death of 18-year-old Linda Velzy, a SUNY student from Long Island. According to reports, Velzy was last seen Dec. 9 1977, hitchhiking in downtown Oneonta.…
