Betty L. Dean, 83;

ONEONTA – Betty L. Dean, 83, a librarian at SUNY Oneonta for a decade, passed away, Saturday, February 2, 2019 in Ballston Spa, where she was living.
She was born April 11, 1935, the daughter of the late Harry and Mildred (Butler) Shaw. After high school, Betty went to work at the Mirror Recorder in Stamford. She then transferred to the Times Journal in Cobleskill, where she worked as a bookkeeper.
Betty later relocated to Oneonta where she worked in the library at SUNY Oneonta and retired from after 10 years of service.
Betty loved to read, garden, and listening and dancing to country music. She especially loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Andrea (Dean) Huggins and her husband Reginald Huggins of Saratoga and her son Alan Dean and wife Tara of Bedford, NH; four grandchildren, Shavawn Waelsch, Ryan Dean, Shane Huggins and Shannon Dean; five great-grandchildren, Aidan Huggins, Ellinor Huggins, Isabelle Waelsch, Esmae Aaron Huggins, and Logan Dean.
She is also survived by her sister Joan (Shaw) Wollaber, Cobleskill and several nieces and nephews.
Betty was predeceased by her grandson Aaron Huggins as well as her brothers, Richard Shaw, Carl Shaw, and Gerald Shaw.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 11 at 1p.m., in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta, with Rev. John Wessells, officiating.
Friends may call at the Bookhout Funeral Home from 11a.m -1p.m at which time the family will be in attendance.
Burial will be private and in the spring in Glenwood Cemetery, Oneonta.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of her grandson Aaron L. Huggins at the Center for Donation and Transplant New York-Vermont at www.donatelifecdt.org.
Arrangements are with Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
