Beware Of Phone Scam,

Oneonta Troopers Warn

ONEONTA – State Police at Oneonta are warning the public of another phone scam.

In the scam, the person who receives the call says his or her son was involved in an accident; to keep him out of jail, they must immediately obtain Google pre-paid cards and give them a code.

Later, the caller asks for more money, police said.

“The scammers try to scare you into cooperating,” according to a press release.  “Resist the urge to give them money.  If you receive a call like this and can’t make contact with the person who is allegedly injured or in trouble, call 911.
