Cooperstown Library Notes—The library is open in the afternoon from 2 to 6 p.m. New books added in the past week include: Author: Strange “Murder Gives a Lovely Light.” This is one of the very best mysteries that the Crime Club has published, both as to style of writing and plot. Author: MacMurray “And Beat Him When He Sneezes.” If you have ever spent any time in a household where there are small boys, you will thoroughly enjoy these very short sketches by the mother of three small boys.

Cooperstown Central School’s football team will open its 1966 season at Sherburne Saturday afternoon. Head Coach Ted Kantorowski said that the 25-man varsity squad has been hampered by injuries during the training season with Mike Phillips and Mike Weir already lost to the team. In the starting line-up against Sherburne it would be either Mike Reynolds or Dave Moyer at quarterback, Buddie Bunt or Wayne Weir at halfback, Greg Lippitt at the other halfback post, Co-Captain Clark Hall at fullback, Alton Dunn at center.

Obesity is on the rise in the U.S. and a major risk factor for cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. About 66 percent of Americans are overweight and 31 percent are obese, defined as a body-mass index greater than 30. As we exercise less and eat more, most of us are expanding our waistlines much greater than the 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men. Other than growing children or physically active persons, most of us should follow a low-fat, low-cholesterol and low carbohydrate diet.
