COOPERSTOWN – Marielle Ainsworth, who is unopposed for an open seat in the Tuesday, May 17, Cooperstown Central budget vote and election, was introduced to attendees at this evening CCS board meeting by President Teresa Russo.

She is running for the seat vacated by Andrew Marietta, who was elected to the county Board of Representatives last fall.   Board Vice President Mary Leonard is running unopposed for a second.

Ainsworth, spouse of Dr. Phil Heavner, the pediatrician, has been in the district for a decade, serving as co-president of the Cooperstown PTA in recent years.  She has two school-age children, Nathan, sixth grade, and Brendan, second grade.  Their younger sister Maggie will enter kindergarten in the fall.

The candidate said she served on a school board in New Mexico and, since arriving in Otsego County, the Brookwood School board, and looks forward to continue serving the community in that regard.

The polls will be open 7 a.m.-9 p.m. on the 17th in Room 304-305 of the high school.  The school board announced tonight that a deadline was missed, so plans to have a polling place in Hartwick this election have been delayed a year.
