IN MEMORIAM:  Dorothy ‘Dottie’ Fisk, 85;

Piano Teacher, Organist At Oneonta Churches

ONEONTA – Dorothy Louise Fisk, 85, a piano teacher and church organist, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2015, at the Focus Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, Index.

“Dottie”, as she was universally known to family and friends, was born on Nov. 26, 1930, in Newark, N.J., to the late Howard Simeon and Louise Adelaide (Morrison) Lasslett.

On June 28, 1958, she married Robert Weldon Fisk of Oneonta at Main Street Baptist Church and celebrated 44 years together until his passing in December 2002.

Dottie graduated from Pompton Lakes High School in Pompton, N.J. She attended her first year of college at Montclair Teachers College in Montclair, N.J., before matriculating to Barrington College in Barrington, R.I., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in music. She took additional training at SUNY Oneonta.

She moved to Oneonta in 1956 and taught for two years at elementary schools in Roxbury and Morris before marrying and settling in West Oneonta where she and Bob raised three sons.  She taught private piano lessons for over 35 years, and was a church organist and pianist in several local churches including Main Street Baptist, West Oneonta Baptist, and Oneonta Seventh-Day Adventist Church. In addition, she played the organ at the Bookhout Funeral Home for many years.

Dottie is survived by her sons and their families: David and Gail (Vestal), John and Faith (Cooperstown), and Daniel and Sue (Burke, Va.); as well as seven grandchildren, Jonathan Fisk, Rachel (and Devin) Zane, Matthew, Andrew, Michael, Christianna and Alexi Fisk; a great grandson, David Zane; and a niece, and several nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Richard (“Dick”) and Janet Lasslett.

Calling hours will be from 6pm-8pm on Monday, Dec. 7, at the Bookhout Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at the Bookhout Funeral Home with the Rev. Frank MacCracken, Jr., officiating. A committal service will be held at a later date at the Glenwood Cemetery in Oneonta.

The family has asked that, in lieu of flowers, donations in Dottie’s memory may be made to the Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820.
