Dr. Hellenthal New Bassett Chief Of Surgery

COOPERSTOWN – Dr. Nicholas Hellenthal, acting chief of surgery since April 2013, has been elevated to the position permanently following an “extensive internal review,” President CEO Vance Brown and Chief Clinical Officer Steven Heneghan announced today.

Hellenthal came to Bassett in 2010 following training in minimally invasive surgery at Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo.   After graduating from Santa Clara (Calif.) University, he had obtained a medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine, both magna cum laude.

In addition to his clinical duties, Hellenthal has led a research program that involved Bassett’s medical students.  Three of the resulting papers have been accepted for publication.

He is a member of the American Medical Association and other professional organizations.

Bassett relaxes emergency visit rules   Bassett Healthcare Network partially lifted visitation restrictions in its emergency departments across the region effective March 1, 2022.   This includes A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, A.O. Fox Hospital’s Tri-Town Campus in Sidney, Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, Cobleskill Regional Hospital, Little Falls Hospital, and O’Connor Hospital in Delhi.
