Elfreda Watts Coss Beach

ONEONTA – Elfreda Watts Coss Beach, born May 15, 1927 in Bellshill, Scotland to Robert Edward and Edith McCombe Coss, raised in Glasgow, passed away May 4, 2021.

She married Allan Rich Beach of Hobart, NY on June 2, 1945 in Glasgow, Scotland. After 71 years of marriage, he predeceased her on October 1, 2016. She lived in West Oneonta; Juno Beach, Fla.; New Holland, Pa.; the Plains at Parish Homestead; and most recently at A. O. Fox Memorial Nursing and Rehabilitation, Oneonta, N.Y.

She was a member of the Elm Park United Methodist Church and Daughters of Scotia and a former member of Amaranth, Order of Eastern Star, Sweet Adelines, and West Oneonta Fire Department Auxiliary. During her career, she did bookkeeping for her husband’s businesses and was a classroom aide at Laurens Central School and Greater Plains Elementary School.

Freda is survived by her 6 children; sister, Jan Holiff, Scottsdale, Ariz.; 2 sisters-in-law; seven grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, her sister Moira Coss, her brother Eric Coss, sister-in-law Phyllis Coss, and her brothers-in-law Morry Holiff, Arnold Dibble, George Grant, and Ferdinand Cook.

Freda was always proud of her Scottish heritage and cherished her family. She enjoyed knitting, playing bingo, traveling with an RV, and going on cruises.

The family wishes to thank Helios Care, Fox Nursing Home staff, the staff at the Plains, Martha, Jess, Dawn, Noreen, Heidi, and others who cared for Mom.

Inurnment in the Locust Hill Cemetery, Hobart, N.Y., was June 2, 2021.

In Memoriam: Jane M. Sheldon

Jane Marie Sheldon, 69, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, February 20, 2026. Born March 5, 1956, in Levittown, Long Island, Jane was the youngest daughter of William J. and Jane (Mulz) Morris. After moving to Hauppauge in her early years, she was given her first pony at the age of five, sparking a lifelong love of horses. While in high school, she completed the BOCES Horse Science and Management program, filling her days with equestrian study and riding competitions. She continued her education at SUNY Cobleskill, earning a degree in Equine Studies in 1977.…
