Father John Roos, 86; Pastor

Father John Roos

COOPERSTOWN – Father John R. Roos, 86, passed away Tuesday night, Jan. 3, 2017, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Utica following a brief illness.

Father Roos is a former pastor of St. Mary’s “Our Lady of the Lake” Catholic Church in Cooperstown.  More recently, he served at St. Thomas the Apostle in Cherry Valley,

An Albany native, before coming to Otsego County he served at the cathedral in Albany; studied canon law and served the diocesan Tribunal; taught at Mater Christi Seminary in Albany; and was pastor of St. Joseph’s parish in Scotia, St. James in Fort Plain and Annunciation in Ilion.

Recently, Father Roos had been residing at the Thanksgiving Home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Peter A. Deysenroth and Martin H. Tillapaugh, the Cooperstown funeral directors.
