Friends Of Bassett’s Soirée Raises $170K For Arts In Healing
COOPERSTOWN – The more than 300 guests attending the Friends of Bassett’s third annual Valentine’s Soirée Feb. 9 at The Otesaga raised $170,000 for the hospital’s Arts in Healthcare program, the Friends announced today.
Arts In Healthcare aims to reduce stress and promote healing among patients, their families and providers through artistic engagement.
Flis and Andy Blum of Cooperstown were recognized for their commitment to Bassett Medical Center and the arts.
As a nod to the Arts in Health Care program, the evening included special components of the program. Cupid’s Craft Corner offered guests a unique opportunity to make Valentine’s cards for patients. Musical acts, Joe Siracusa’s Trio, Glimmerglass Festival’s Young Artists and the Edgewater duo of Emily DeSantis and Toby Wilcox, offered a taste of the entertainment they currently provide on Bassett’s campus through the program.
The 2019 soirée committee was led by co-chairs Rachel Damroth and Betsy Jay and included members Angie Eichler, Marilyn Garman, Cara Gennario, Wendy Kiuber, Jen Kubis, Robin Lopez, Erika Prouty, Rachael Shaughnessy, Gayle Smith, Jean Stabinski and Ronette Wiley.
TWO ON TOP: Elizabeth Millea, Hartwick, and Sydney Murray, Burlington Flats, were both named to the Fall 2018 Dean’s List at Le Moyne College.
LIVERMORE LAUDED: Tae Livermore, Cooperstown graduated Magna cum Laude from Ithaca College with a BS in Economics.
‘Garden Art’ Takes Top Honors In Annual Quilt Show
COOPERSTOWN – Kathie Webster’s “Garden Art” was the Viewer’s Choice winner at the 29th annual Cooperstown Quilt Show.
“There’s no doubt that her use of various techniques & textures and great attention to detail spoke to many viewers,” the quilt club said in a press release. “Congratulations Kathie!”
“Garden Art” was selected out of over 100 full sized, baby quilts and wall-hangings.
Eileen McClafferty of Oneonta, was the lucky winner of the 2019 Raffle Quilt made by members of the Fenimore Quilt Club. This was a hand-quilted queen-size quilt, reflecting the theme of “Buildings from Sea to Sea.”
The CAA estimates that well over 1,000 quilt lovers attended this year’s show and helped to raise funds for the local Food Pantries.
SKILLEN LAUDED: Natasha Skillen, Milford, has graduated from Le Moyne College with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has been named to the Fall 2018 Dean’s List.
