George William Dieball, 80

June 5, 1941 – April 7, 2022

OTEGO – George William Dieball, Jr., 80, of Otego passed away Thursday, April 7, 2022 at home.

He was born June 5, 1941 in Otego the son of the late George William and Helen (Birdsall) Dieball, Sr.

George graduated from Otego Central School. He attended Hart-wick College then joined the Air Force. He later graduated from SUNY Oneonta, then worked in Education and in Quality Control.

On September 11, 1965, George married Nancy Gillingham at the Otego Baptist Church.

George is survived by his wife, Nancy Dieball; two daughters, Lee Ann (Scott) Harmening and Kelly (Roger) Morton; two grandsons, Alex and Nathan Harmening; his pet dog, Eddie; close friends, Jackie and Buzz Hesse and George and Kathy Siemer; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lynn Gillingham, Mary Johnson-Butler, Pat Zelanzny and Bill (Helene) Gilling-ham; nieces and nephews, Betsy Rowlands Knox, Helen Birdsall, Francis Birdsall, Sandy (Clint) Fiaschi, Sherry (Pete) Barberio, Richard (Lori) Gillingham, Vicki (Steve) Judd, Daniel Gillingham and Connie (Joseph) King, Michael (Tiphani) Johnson, Sheri Nouane (Peter) Duncan-Jones, Lisa (Duane) Harcrow, John (Lisa) Zelazny, Jessica (Adam) Preble and Jeffery (Heather) Gillingham; as well as many great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Rowlands and Frances Stever; sister-in-law, Joan Gillingham and Judith Canna; and brother-in-law, Stephen Butler.

George was a man of many interests. An accomplished pianist, he played professionally in various venues. He also enjoyed cars and car shows; he even built his own street rod. He was an avid weather and bird watcher. He belonged to a short-wave radio club in Massachusetts, a car club in Endicott, model airplane clubs in New York and North Carolina as well as a gun club in North Carolina.

Arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home, Oneonta.
