Gilbertsville Man Arrested

For Stealing Christmas Gifts

ONEONTA – Just in time to save Christmas, State Police arrested a man for stealing packages off porches in Oneonta’s West End.

Andrew J. VanDusen, 38, Gilbertsville, was arrested after police received several complaints from West End residents about packages being stolen off their porches. After reviewing doorbell camera footage, police allegedly identified VanDusen, and later, a resident spotted a male that matched the description on Jefferson Avenue and alerted troopers.

Following VanDusen’s arrest, all packages were recovered near a snowbank on West Street Extension. Only one was damaged, and several others that had not yet been reported stolen were recovered and turned over to their rightful owners/

VanDusen was charged with two felony counts of Burglary in the second degree, one count of misdemeanor Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree and six counts of misdemeanor Petit Larceny. He was arraigned by a judge at Otsego County Central Processing and Arraignment where he was released on his own recognizance.  VanDusen is set to appear in the town of Oneonta court on Jan. 2, 2019.
