IN MEMORIAM: Gordon Gray, 85;

35-Year Bassett Cafeteria Manager

COOPERSTOWN – Gordon L. Gray, 85, a 35-year manager of Bassett Hospital’s cafeteria, passed away Monday night, June 12, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born Jan. 14, 1932, at home in the Town of Hartwick, a son of Walter F. and Ruth (Fassett) Gray.

He lived his entire life in the Cooperstown area.  Throughout his life Gordie was a hard worker, and in addition to working at Bassett he mowed many lawns and plowed a lot of snow. In his  leisure, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most enjoyed just being with family and friends.

Gordie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Bridger Gray, of Cooperstown; their four children, Barry D. Gray and wife, Brenda Wedderspoon-Gray, of Cooperstown, Pamela Madrid of San Antonio, Texas, Bonnie Garcia of Lancaster, Calif., and Brenda Lee Gray of Walton; a sister, Mrs. May Tymcheck of Hortense, Ga.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

One of 11 children, Gordie was predeceased by three brothers, Douglas, Donald and Clifford Gray; and six sisters, Ruth Short, Hilda Turp, Marion Dale, Betty Stalvey, Virginia Armstrong and Doris Armstrong.
At his request, there will be no services.

Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Connell, Dow & Deysenroth Funeral Home in Cooperstown.
