NEW LISBON – Howard E. Barton of Whitesburg, Ky., formerly of New Lisbon, whose law enforcement career included serving as security manager at Oneonta Job Corps, died on Aug.18, 2016.

Born in New Berlin, he was the oldest child of the late Edgar A. and L. Etta (Ray) Barton. In his formative years, attended the Burlington Green Baptist Church and Sunday school. He was a Boy Scout, Scout master and coached baseball at Morris Central School.

Howard graduated from Edmeston Central School and attended advanced law-enforcement training to work in the security field.

He moved to Greenville, S.C., where he married Barbara Edge and had one son, Howard E. (Beau), Jr. The family moved to Texas where he became head of operations & security for Southland Corp.; he later moved his family back to New York, to be close to his parents, when he worked at OJC.

In the last few years of his life, Howard lived with his beloved Debra Ison-Fields in Whitesburg, Ky., where he enjoyed traveling, doing special projects, and spending time with family; especially with Debra’s grandson Aiden (Boomer).

Howard was a devoted family man. He loved hunting and fishing. He excelled at cooking and enjoyed preparing large holiday meals, barbequing, and gardening.

Survivors include his son, Howard E. (Beau) Jr., Tazewell, Tenn.; siblings Shirley Neidhoefer, Lisle; Patricia Kent, Binghamton; Deborah and Mykel Rood, West Burlington; Dale and Trina Barton, Pittsfield; Darryl Barton, South Edmeston; David and Linda Barton, Tazewell; and Dean and Debra Barton, Burlington; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Edgar Barton; mother; L. Etta (Ray) Barton; sister, Phyllis and brother Russell.

A family graveside service and interment was planned at Butternut Valley Brick School House Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Burlington Green Baptist Church, 752 Parker Hill Road, Edmeston, NY 13335.

Arrangements are under the guidance of the Houk-Johnston-Terry Funeral Home, Edmeston.
