GLEN COVE—James R. White, 74, passed away on August 21, 2026 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1951 in Glen Cove, New York, the son of Everest and Maryann (O’Donovan) White.
He graduated from Champlain Valley Union High School in June 1969 and attended St. Michael’s College. A carpenter by trade, Jim built several houses in the Essex Junction area before moving to Virginia. He started his own construction company, TyKel, so named after his two children. In his retirement, Jim traveled to Cooperstown, New York to work for the Cooperstown Dreams Park for the past four summers. Welcoming in teams from across the country, it was truly a dream job for Jim.
Jim loved baseball, especially the New York Yankees. He was an avid slow-pitch softball player both in Vermont and Virginia. His teams often made the regional championships.
Jim is survived by his best friend and ex-wife, Peggy (Fitzpatrick) Starr; their two children, Kelli and Matthew Johnson and Tyler and Christine White; his six grandchildren, Konner and Sarah Johnson, Victoria Johnson, Logan White, Jaxon White, Harper White, and Christian White; his seven siblings, Thomas and Cathy White, Denis and Joan White, Maryellen White, Kathleen and John Cote, Daniel White, Rosemarie White, and John and Paula White; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his Aunt Betty Jo White.
At Jim’s request, there will be no services.
