IN MEMORIAM: Norman Maxson, 95;

WWII Veteran Spent Career At A&P

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Norman Faye Maxson, 95, a World War II veteran and career A&P employee, passed away peacefully on Tuesday Nov. 20, 2018, at Bassett Hospital.

Norman was born on July 15, 1923, in Richfield Springs, a son of the late Julian F. and Nina B. O’Connor Maxson. He was raised and educated In Richfield Springs, and lived here most of his live.

In 1942, he joined the Army Air Force, and served as a radio operator during World War II.

While he was stationed at Truax Field, Wisconsin, he received a radio operators diploma with honors in the American Airways Communications System, along with a special certificate for those who qualified in Speed Code.

After the war, he returned home and in 1946 he married the former Bette J. Norton in the Richfield Springs Presbyterian Church.

For 38 years, he was a meat cutter with the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company (A&P) in Richfield Springs. In his spare time he enjoyed playing video games, bowling and golf.

He was a friend to many and will never be forgotten.

Surviving him, his wife of 72 years Bette; two sons, Thomas Maxson and his wife Sandra, and Mark Maxson and his wife  Shawn, all of Richfield Springs; four daughters, Marilyn Patrick and her husband Raymond, and Diane Frohne and her husband Ronald, all of Richfield Springs, Susan Dodd and her husband Calvin Vidalia, La., and Sherry Woudenberg and her husband Ronald of Penn Yan; a sister, Marian Maxson of Richfield Springs, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one great great-grandchild, and many nieces nephews and cousins.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters Bette Eysaman and Grace LaFrance.

In according to his wishes there will be no calling hours, a service will take place at a later time convenient to the family.

A big piece of our hearts now lives in heaven. Remember to take time to spend with family, friends and loved ones, creating memories you will always have to cherish.
