IN MEMORIAM: James A. Weeks Jr. 81;

Dairy Farmer, 4th Of July Parade Marshal

SPRINGFIELD – James A. Weeks, Jr., grand marshal of the Springfield Center 2017 Fourth of July Parade and a lifelong dairy farmer, died Feb. 25, 2019, at Bassett Hospital, with his loving church family and close friends by his side.

He was born on Aug. 3, 1937, to Arnold and Mildred Weeks.  James was a graduate of Springfield Central School.  He lived his whole life on the family dairy farm, taking over the business when he came of age.

He was married to his beloved wife Harriette on Oct. 19, 1961.

After retiring from farming, he spent time with Harriette showing and riding their Arabian horses.  James was also an avid Syracuse basketball fan.

James attended the First Baptist Church of Springfield Center as a child and faithfully served there with his wife, Harriette, the rest of their lives.  He served as a Deacon, Trustee, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, and Youth Group Leader.  He devoted his life to God’s work and serving the church.

He was an upstanding man in the community, leading to his nomination as grand marshal.

He had one brother, Earl Weeks, who has passed away.  His wife, Hazel, is still living in Florida.  They had three children.  He is survived by several in-laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Calling hours will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, March 8, at Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley.  The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, The First Baptist Church of Springfield Center. Committal services will be held in the spring, when he will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Harriette.

Special donations can be made to The Springfield Center Baptist Church, P.O. Box  34, Springfield Center, N.Y. 13468.  He will be greatly missed by his loving family, church family, and friends.
