IN MEMORIAM:  John J. Fink, 66;

Worked In Emergency Management

ONEONTA – John Joseph Fink, 66, who spent more than 30 years in the emergency-management field, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2016, at home with family by his side after battling cancer.

John was born in Oneonta on July 20, 1949, to Lucille Sardella Fink and the late Jesse B Fink.

John graduated from OHS in 1967 and, in 1970, from Herkimer Community College, where he met the love of his life Corinne L. (Wentworth) Fink (deceased).

John worked for the City of Oneonta tax department, then joined the Otsego County Emergency Management as emergency coordinator.  Then spent 30 years with the state Department of Emergency Management, from which he retired. After retirement he continued to work for the State of New York on a part-time basis.

John was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta He was also a member of the American Legion and Sixth Ward Athletic Club where he liked to go every day just to get out and say hello to all.

John is survived by his two children, Rene Fink of Oneonta and Aaron (Vikkie) Fink of Victor;  grandchildren Macy (Steven) Engler, Nicole Harmer, Carter and Ciara Fink, as well as great-grand-children Gabby and Sammy Engler.  Also, his brother Craig (Bubby) Fink, who was by his side until the end, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

John was predeceased by his father Jesse B Fink, his grandparents Carmella and Sisto Sardella and Iva and Benjamin Fink.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11am on Thursday, June 9, at St. Mary’s. Interment will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Emmons
