Libby, Ian Visit Oneonta, Ala., Exchange Gifts With Mayor

Newlywed Libby Austin Cudmore and Ian Austin, reporter and photographer for Hometown Oneonta & The Freeman's Journal, stopped in Oneonta, Ala., Thursday, on their honeymoon trip to Roswell, N.M., They presented Mayor Ross Norris with a package of Oneonta, N.Y., memorabilia, and he responded in kind. They were then escorted to the local high school, where the Oneonta Redskins cheerleading squad greeted them as VIPs. They were also interviewed by the local newspaper, the Blount Countian.

I am from Oneonta, AL and had the privilege of visiting Oneonta NY two summers ago. Loved it! Wonderful people and the countryside is beautiful! We love having our northern neighbors visit!

Killer Knapp Dies In Prison; Guilty In SUNY Coed’s Death ONEONTA – Ricky Knapp, the man convicted of the 1977 death of SUNY Oneonta student, has died in Mohawk Correctional Facility, according to prison records. Knapp, 66, died March 8, having served 40 years of a 25-to-life sentence for a 1978 manslaughter conviction in the death of 18-year-old Linda Velzy, a SUNY student from Long Island.
