Local Groups Answer Call for Second No Kings Day Rally

ONEONTA—On Saturday, October 18 from 1-2:30 p.m., on the green between Stella Luna Restaurant and the Foothills Performing Arts and Civic Center, CooperstownOneonta Indivisible, Butternut Valley Indivisible, Cherry Valley Indivisible, Indivisible for Schoharie County, and the Otsego County Democratic Committee will hold a local rally to answer the national call for No Kings Day 2.0 rallies across the country.

According to a press release issued on Friday, October 10, to date 2,500 No Kings Day 2.0 rallies are planned nationwide—surpassing the number of rallies held on June 14, the first No Kings Day. Participants are asked to bring one non-perishable food item for a rally day food drive for “Your Safe Haven” Food Bank and Soup Kitchen in Oneonta.

“No Kings is a national day of peaceful action and mass mobilization in response to increasing authoritarian excesses and corruption from President Trump and his allies,” the press release reads. “We’ve watched as they’ve cracked down on free speech, detained people for their political views, deployed the American military against American citizens, threatened and harassed immigrants trying to do the right thing the right way, passed a budget law that will decimate healthcare access for millions of Americans and defied the courts. They’ve done this all while continuing to serve and enrich their billionaire allies.

The rally will include speakers, music, colorful signage and a march around the block to deliver the message, “No kings in the U.S.A.”

“On October 18, we will join millions of people across the country to say America’s governance is of the people, by the people, and for the people. We will stand in peaceful resistance to a president who wants to be king and the enablers who support him for their own power and gain,” organizers said.
