COOPERSTOWN – A Mount Vision man was arrested for theft after security footage revealed that he had stolen a wallet at Bassett Hospital, according to the county District Attorney’s Office.

Kyle Dillon Dorr Smallin, 40, of Mount Vision, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 11 and charged with stealing a man’s wallet, containing $45 in cash and three credit cards after they were reported missing by the Bassett Hospital Security Department.  Following a joint investigation with the Cooperstown Police Department, police contacted Smallin’s probation officer, Christopher Farrell, who interviewed Smallin, where he confessed to the larceny, D.A.’s Investigator Mike Ten Eyck reported.

Smallin was arrested by police officers James Kelman and Jessica Thornhill for grand larceny in the fourth degree, a class E felony, and petit larceny, a class A misdemeanor.  Farrell will also file a violation of probation against Smallin in the Oneonta City Court.

Smalling was arraigned by Town of Otsego Judge Leslie B. Friedman and posted $1,000 cash bail at the court and is scheduled to return to the Town of Otsego Court on Feb 17.

If convicted of the new charges, Smallin faces up to four years in the state prison.  If convicted on the probation violation, he faces one year.
