Oneonta Teen Arrested
On Robbery, Assault Charges
ONEONTA – An 18-year-old was arrested Tuesday on charges of robbery and assault stemming from a home invasion in early January.
Duquan Davis, 18, of Oneonta, was arrested yesterday and charged with four felonies after an investigation into a robbery last month, where he was alleged to have stolen money from a home.
He was charged with Robbery in the first degree, class B felony, Burglary in the first degree, class B felony, Criminal use of a Firearm in the first degree, class B felony, Assault in the second degree, class D felony and Menacing in the second degree, class A misdemeanor. In total, he faces up to 82 years in prison.
The investigation is still ongoing.
What he did was wrong but he’s a good kid and doesn’t deserve 82 years in prison… No person with that small action of crime deserves that type of punishment… What happened with,”an eye for an eye”… Hammurabi’s code, anyone? I don’t get how he’s probably going to get 82 years and murderers and rapists get 3-5… The law can be total bs… It needs to be fair… Punish him to the extent of his actions, not his actions times 50.. Just saying… He is a good kid, and good kids make bad choices sometimes, maybe not to this extent, but everybody does
I agree with you 100% ! He is a good kid and if he’s truly guilty, may he be dealt with accordingly. He shouldn’t rott in jail like he commited a murder… I’m not condoning his actions but as you stated MURDERS and Rapists have been sentenced to lesser years than that.
This young person had the unfortunate card of very bad parenting. Duquan is a kind, sweet soul and assisted in raising his younger siblings. He get good grades in school and plays for the Oneonta High School football team. This incident is a far reach from Duquans behavior, and I believe that much will come to light in the coming months that hopefully people will be able to grasp, just what kind of circumstances this young person was coping with.

I don’t know many good people who break into a home With a gun, intent on robbing the house. Being an athlete and getting good grades doesn’t excuse this kind of behavior and it shouldn’t grant lesser charges. Knowing right from wrong is something we are engrained with from school and our co mmunity and although the punishment is a bit severe.. what if soneone was in the house and got shot. You don’t bring a gun without some intent on using.
The police always charge people with the worst crimes they can, so the people can pay some big named attorney to get the charges reduced and pay a huge fine so everyone except the criminal makes some money. It’s all a money making scheme. Unfortunately they don’t practice law like the days of Andy Griffith, but a lot of teens are bad asses, and the cops are too busy taking care of all of those idiot college students to take 5 minutes to consider the circumstances. Therefore, the police charge people with whatever they can, then let the DAs and Lawyers sort it out. Furthermore, it is not the police, lawyers, or judges fault murderers ans sex offenders get less time in jail. Laws and consequences are written by all those wonderful and worthless politicians. If you want things to change they would be the ones to complain too, if they weren’t too busy making money from big business and special interest they might care. Which is why we have elections and we the people get a say in who gets elected. It’s your job to read up on and research those people running instead of listening to their speeches and commercials where they tell you what you want to hear to get your vote. So stop screaming at the cops for doing their jobs and start doing yours as citizens.
Such a great kid thats why 2 year later he does the exact same crime to my family. Lock his f*****g ass in prison throw away the key. Stupid kid had a chance to change, but didnt. Still the stupid loser he was back then. Now he will also be charged with endangeeing the welfare of a child 2 counts, invasion, armed robbery, unlawful possession of a firearm, felon with an illegal firearm . Nice Duquan at least you got yourself locked up before we caught up to you ?
Why hasn’t this been in the news? His accomplice mr. Brown has threatened to rob or shoot multiple people I know of in Sidney.
