When asked about the new traffic signal at Route 166 and Middlefield Road, Town Supervisor Henry Schecher – tongue firmly in cheek – replied: To serve booming downtown Middlefield. Actually, he continued, the state Highway Department is replacing a culvert under 166, and has set up the temporary traffic signals to do one lane, then the other lane, over the course of the season.
