CHERRY VALLEY – Theodore Ernest Duesler, 79, a founder of the Cherry Valley emergency squad and former president of the Otsego County Fireman’s Association, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016.

Theodore was born April 21, 1937, in Amsterdam, the son of Ernest Duesler and Rosina Morey Duesler. He was raised in Fonda and schooled in the Fonda School System. He married Barbara Jean Baker on Aug. 25, 1956, in the First Methodist Church of Johnstown.

Ted served eight years in the state Army National Guard.

He was a member of the Cherry Valley First Presbyterian Church and served as a trustee, treasurer, elder and deacon.

Ted was also a member of the Cherry Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and founding member of the Cherry Valley Emergency Squad. He was also a member of the Otsego County Fireman’s Association where he served as president, vice president, secretary and chaplain. He was a member of the New York State Association of Fire Chaplains and The Fireman’s Association of the State of New York.

Survivors include his wife Barbara; his children, his children Merrilyn (Wayde) Clapper of Cherry Valley, Amy (Fredy) Herr of Cherry Valley and Richard (Theresa) Duesler of Waynesboro, Pa.; grandchildren Richard (Renee) Moore of Raleigh, N.C., Samantha (Thomas) Kline of Waynesboro, Pa., Corey (Lindsey) Duesler of Waynesboro, Pa., Deidre Herr of Cherry Valley, and great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Shane Moore of South Onondaga, adopted great grandson, Cole Jinkins of Raleigh, N.C., and Lucas and Natalie Kline of Waynesboro, Pa., as well as, siblings Marie VanDusen of Johnstown, and Helene VanAlstyne of Fultonville, and a brother-in-law Richard Baker of Johnstown.

Ted is predeceased by his parents, a sister Winifred Tremante and a grandson Jay Moore.

Calling hours will be 5-8 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10, at Ottman Funeral Home in Cherry Valley. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Cherry Valley Presbyterian Church. Fireman’s services will be held during the funeral. A final alarm will be done at 1:30 PM at the Cherry Valley Fire House. There will be a private family committal and burial.
