Tourney Coming Up

COOPERSTOWN—The Cooperstown Central School Sports Booster Club will host the 41st Annual Dick White Holiday Basketball Tournament on Thursday, December 26 and Friday, December 27. This year’s tournament will include Cooperstown junior varsity and varsity teams as well as boys and girls varsity and JV basketball teams from Hamilton, Unatego, Delaware Academy, Herkimer, and Oxford.

Tournament games will begin on Thursday, December 26 at 9 a.m. and continue throughout the day with JV teams competing earlier in the day and varsity teams competing in the later games. Consolation games and championship games for all divisions will be played on Friday, December 27, with specific game times and teams posted in the foyer of the CCS school gymnasium. Game schedules will also be updated as often as possible via the Cooperstown Sports Booster Club Facebook page.

All games will be played in the Red Bursey Gymnasium of the Cooperstown Central High School. Admission tickets can be purchased at the door. Adults cost $5.00 per day; students/seniors (age 60+) $3.00 per day.

There are still open volunteer slots. Those able to give a short amount of their time are asked to check out the signup links below to help with a shift in concessions or tickets or to just donate some food items to concessions:

“We are very appreciative of the community’s support,” organizers said in a media release.

All proceeds from the Annual Dick White Holiday Basketball Tournament will benefit the programs supported by the CCS Sports Booster Club. There is still time to donate to the CCS Sports Booster Club to help with this event and future events. Donations can be remitted to CCS Sports Booster Club, PO Box 141, Cooperstown, NY 13326.

This year’s tournament is sponsored by Leather Head Sports, Janky Painting, Leatherstocking Cooperative Insurance Co. and Keller Williams Realty, Flynn Group. The tournament schedule is as follows:

Thursday, December 26

  • 9 a.m., Girls JV Hamilton vs. Unatego
  • 10:30 a.m., Boys JV Delaware Academy vs. Herkimer
  • Noon, Boys JV Cooperstown vs. Oxford
  • 1:30 p.m., Girls JV Cooperstown vs. Delaware Academy
  • Break, 3-3:30 p.m.
  • 3:30 p.m., Girls Varsity Hamilton vs. Unatego
  • 5 p.m., Boys Varsity Delaware Academy vs. Herkimer
  • 6:30 p.m., Boys Varsity Cooperstown vs. Oxford
  • 8 p.m., Girls Varsity Cooperstown vs. Delaware Academy

Friday, December 27

  • 9 a.m., Boys JV Consolation Game
  • 10:30 a.m., Girls JV Consolation Game
  • Noon, Girls JV Championship Game
