Villagers Debate Zoning,

Dunkin’ Lot Moratorium

At this hour, Cooperstown citizens just ended debating loosening zoning to allow more apartments in houses, and whether to impose a six-month moratorium on a lot proposed for a Dunkin’ Donuts shop, an application now withdrawn. Here, village Fire Chief Jim Tallman, standing at left, said if the village doesn’t allow for more housing, membership in the fire department will continue to decline and the village may be required to create a paid fire department. He supported development on the Dunkin’ lot, but not until a traffic signal is put on the corner of Walnut and Chestnut streets. The public hearing began at 7 and ran until a few minutes ago.  Mayor Ellen Tillapaugh Kuch said she expects about an hour of discussion, and there may be a vote at that point.
