DOT TO BE CONSULTED ON GLEN, GROVE

Village Trustees Decide:

Wait, Seek Expertise Before

Approving 4-Way Stop Sign

Beth Emerick, who lives at 21 Glen Ave., next to Grove Street, advised against installing a four-way stop sign at that intersection when the Cooperstown Village Board met this evening, although she agreed something – perhaps flashing yellow lights – needed to be done there.  In the foreground is Trustee Richard Sternberg, who chairs the trustees’ Public Safety Committee and recommended the four-way option, which was up for public hearing tonight.  Fire Chief Jim Tallman, next to Emerick, said there have been 10 accidents that involved calls to the fire department’s EMS squad, suggesting personal injuries; other accidents, he said, caused property damage.  Trustees were split on what to do, voting 4-2 against acting now.  Trustee MacGuire Benton joined Sternberg.  The trustees then voted unanimously to seek expertise from the state Department of Transportation and revisit the issue next month.   Seated at left is Jim Leslie, captain of the fire police.  (Jennifer Hill/AllOTSEGO.com)

  1. Although I was actually involved in an accident at this intersection,in1974,when the other vehicle ran the stop sign, I’m more concerned that drivers on Pioneer Street at the flag pole seem to think that there is a four way stop at that intersection.
