WWII Veteran Worked At Amphenol

Douglas Moore

UNADILLA – Douglas R. Moore, 91, a World War II veteran who worked at Amphenol, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2019, at his home.

He was lovingly cared for by His wife, his four daughters, and his sister, Jeannie and her husband, Bobby.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1927, to Otto and Evelyn (Earl) Moore in Unadilla.  He married Beverly F. Schofell on Jan. 21, 1946, his bride of 73 years.

He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a tech sergeant in communications in Japan.

He worked in the shipping department at Amphenol, and was a retired motel manager of the Super 8 in Norwich.

He was always a beloved friend and neighbor to those who knew him and he was an avid golfer and bowler. He and his wife enjoyed their many cross-country trips building lifetime memories, exploring the west and the south.

Doug will also be remembered as a gentle poet who shared his craft with family and friends through the years. With his ever optimistic view of life, he wrote:  “So keep a smile on your face, And a love-light in your eye, And keep your life a happy one, for no one likes to cry.” His legacy of love will last forever.

He is survived by his wife,  Beverly F. Moore, Unadilla; four daughters and their families, Donna and William Ryan, Avon Lake, Ohio, Sharon Moore, The Villages, Fla., Karen and Bruce Barbour, Richmond Hill, Ga., and Stephanie and David Young, Hamilton; 11 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law,  Gloria Jean and Robert Miville, Farmingdale, Maine, Susan and Carl Puylara, Inverness, Fla., and several beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.  Online condolences may be made at:   www.wmaddenfh.com.  Arrangements by the Westcott-Madden Funeral Home 123 Main St., Unadilla.
