Samaritan Attacked, Cut,

Alleged Assailant Arrested

BAINBRIDGE – A 71-year-old Bainbridge man is charged with attacking one person, then slashing a second, who tried to intervene, with a knife, state police at Troop C report.

At 2:32 p.m. last Saturday, troopers arrested Franklin H. Farrell for assault in the second and in the third degree, both felonies.

Troopers responded to fight on Route 39, and said Farrell grabbed one person on the arm after an argument, causing cuts to the arm, a press release said.

Someone tried to intervene, and Farrell allegedly brandished a knife and tried to stab the prospective rescuer, whose stomach was cut, trooper said.  Try to keep Farrell at bay with the running board of a nearby car, that would-be Samaritan received several defensive cuts on the arm, according to the release.

Farrell was transported to Tri-County Hospital for his injuries and was arrested after he was released.  He was arraigned in Bainbridge Town Court and remanded to Chenango County Jail without bail.

An order of protection was issued to both victims.  Farrell’s scheduled to return to court on May 9, 2019.
