U.S. Grant To Milford School

Expands STEM Opportunities

MILFORD – Congressman Antonio Delgado, R-19, today announced $83,000 in federal funding to increase access to STEM programs in the Milford Central School through “micro credentials,” mini-degrees or certifications in science, technology, engineering and math.

This funding comes from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Career Opportunities in Rural Education-Transformative Workforce program.

The resources for this program, combined with local funds, will allow Milford Central to implement a new micro-credentialing platform and hire additional teachers to expand the workforce-education alignment process in the STEM fields.

“Education is the great equalizer for students in all communities,” said Delgado.  The grant will allow Milford Central to “allow students to work closely with local businesses that identify STEM-based needs and ensure students and businesses have the skills to compete in a modern workforce.” he said.

Mark Place, Milford school superintendent, said the grant will let the school expand its CORE (Career Opportunities for Rural Education) program, now in its eighth year, “to provide opportunities students may not otherwise have access to.”
