IN MEMORIAM: Dennis Suhocki, 67;

Navy Vet, Outdoorsman, Taxidermist

RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Dennis G. Suhocki, 67, a Navy veteran, outdoorsman and taxidermists, passed away on Dec. 28, 2019, in his home, following a short illness. He had the comfort of his loving family at his side.

Dennis was born on July 15, 1952, in Herkimer, son of the late John and Margaret Irene Stiler Suhocki.

A lifelong area resident, he was educated at Owen D. Young Central School in Van Hornesville and graduated from Richfield Springs High School.

In 1970, he enlisted in the Navy and had served until 1985. During his service he was educated in math and computers at National University of San Diego.

He lived in California for two years before returning to Richfield Springs and starting Back Road Taxidermy Service, which he operated until 2018.

On July 12, 1989, he married the former Diane Slockbower in Richfield Springs.

In his leisure time he was true outdoorsman. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and found his peace and tranquility in the open fields and forests. To those who knew him, they would say he was a caring, helpful and hardworking man. Always ready and willing to do for others while looking for nothing in return. He will be sadly missed.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Diane; two sons, Bob Suhocki and wife, Melisa, of Mohawk, and Wayne Suhocki and his companion, Mindy Kayler, of Herkimer; a stepdaughter, Vickie Gwozdz and husband, Ron of East Springfield; two stepsons, John Baker and his companion, Heather Helin, of Richfield Springs, and Jason Baker and wife, Mindy, of Cherry Valley; brother Dale A. Suhocki of Utica; 17 cherished grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, 40 West James St. in Richfield Springs. A funeral service will immediately follow with the Rev. Alan Miller officiating.

Interment with military honors will take place later this spring in Highland Rural Cemetery in Jordanville.

Memorial donations in his name may be made to ASPCA or Herkimer County Humane Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
