COOPERSTOWN – Governor Cuomo revealed yesterday that the coronavirus is surfacing locally, with one case each in Herkimer and Delaware counties.

Locally, calls started coming last evening of one, perhaps two cases being treated at Bassett Hospital.  However, the hospital is declining to confirm any cases.

A press conference on the matter is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. today, and more details may be available at that time.

Meanwhile, if you have information on the outbreak, please alert our reporters at 607-547-6103, email info@allotsego.com, or text 607-643-2514

  1. Shut down the schools – they are the best way to transmit airborne diseases. Shut the HoF, the museums, the Dreams Park, until a vaccine is developed.

  2. was planning on participating in the dreams park baseball tournament with my 12 year old son this summer… was hoping that this would be resolved by then… but looking more and more that its gonna have to be canceled.

  3. Agree with Mr. Northrup. Kids are carriers and vectors for spreading disease. Early containment pays of exponentially later in reducing total number infected and rate of new cases. It is time to reduce community spread ASAP. See CDC video on Exponential Growth and Pandemics. The virus will spread at a rate depending on social behavior changes. Also, this virus is much worse than flu. Behavior changes RE hygiene and social distancing a must!

  5. I am a CDP full-time employee. I understand the disappointment many may have in the closing of the Dreams Park this summer. I too am disappointed, I like the work I do at CDP. I have seen posts where people have said it’s too early for this decision to be made. I certainly was not part of the planning but I certainly understand the gravity of this decision. CDP attracts teams along with t
familys from every corner of this country over a 13 week period. This represents in my estimates over 2,000 (more or less) individuals weekly. That number does not include the projected 600 employees anticipated. My numbers may not be totally accurate.
Teams and families need to make travel plans now for the June 6 opening. They already have made reservations for the weeks stay. I hope all that are critical of the decision not to open this season understand the total gravity of all that is involved in getting this facility ready for opening. I can say after being part of the effort to open CDP is nothing but mammoth and overwhelming. Governor Cuomo has ordered non-essential businesses to shutter. This would leave little or no time to get the facility in order to open for June 6!
I know the powers that be agonized over the consequences of opening or closing. I hope all will understand. We have never experienced anything like this in our collective memories.
