No COVID Deaths

New Year’s Weekend

But Active Cases, Hospitalizations Up

By CHRYSTAL SAVAGE • Special to www.AllOTSEGO.com

COOPERSTOWN – December was the deadliest month, but Otsego County has reported no additional deaths related to COVID-19 in almost a week.

Nonetheless, cases and hospitalizations have increased over the same six days.

Since Dec. 29, the number of active cases have grown to 157 – a 65 person increase – and hospitalizations have increased by four from 17 to 21 during that time.

Public health officials continue to warn against social gatherings, following the deadliest and most transmittable month in the county since the region became a national news with the SUNY Oneonta outbreak of the pandemic in August.

If social distancing was not obeyed over the holidays, it is anticipated that these numbers will not only continue to grow, but that they will do so exponentially.
