Dawdling Ducks Delay Derby

An unseasonably low creek made for a tricky Duck Derby at the Fly Creek Cider Mill on Saturday with many of the ducks staying still and even moving backwards in the water! Thankfully, Paul Weber, Fly Creek, a volunteer with the Lions' Club and this year's Chairman of the derby was there to help them on there way. Here, he holds up Ian Cronizo's winning duck for the onlookers waiting along the bridge. (Ian Austin/ AllOTESGO.com
Today’s Duck Derby at the Fly Creek Cider Mill moved at a snails’ pace thanks to an unseasonably low water in the creek causing  many ducks to remain stationary while some drifted backwards upstream! Not to be outdone, Paul Weber, Fly Creek, a volunteer with the Lions’ Club and this year’s Chairman of the derby was able to help the ducks on there way with waves made from hoses and box lids. Eventually, a clear winner was determined and Weber held up Ian Cronizo’s winning duck for the onlookers watching from the bridge. Money raised from the event is going towards the construction of a interactive Interpretive sensory trail at Glimmerlgass state park for the blind and visually impaired.(Ian Austin/ AllOTESGO.com
