GOHS Honors Chuck D’Imperio

With 20th Albert Morris Award

Chuck D'Imperio, left, author of seven books on Upstate history and WDOS-FM host, receives the 20th Albert E. Morris Award for contributions to local history from Bob Brzozowski, executive director Greater Oneonta Historical Society, at a reception at the Oneonta History Center. In his remarks, D'Imperio recounted the close race between the Republican Morris, the city's first mayor, and Democrat George Gibbs. After a campaign that featured huge rallies and torch-light parade, Morris eked out a two-vote victory, "or I would be receiving the George Gibbs Award." Other recipients include Norma Hutman, longtime historical society president; Swart-Wilcox House mainstay Helen Reese, former Mayor "Big Jim" Lettis, Railroad Historian Jim Loudon, former Mayor Sam Nader and railroad buff Tony Mongillo, whose railroad lithographs will be features in a show that will open Feb. 1. Oneonta Program Has Spooky Side

Oneonta Program Has Spooky Side On Thursday, October 20 from 5-7 p.m., the Greater Oneonta Historical Society’s “History After Hours!” series at the Oneonta History Center will feature ghost stories and unsolved mysteries, spooky treats, “cup cooking,” a reading of “The Chocolate Chip Ghost” in the Sally Mullen Children’s Corner, and arts and crafts including paper jack-o’-lantern baskets and ghost ornaments. This “Haunted History!” event for adults and children of all ages is free and open to the public. GOHS first introduced its new monthly history-based series in September; the topic for the November 17 program is to be announced.…
