ONEONTA – Edith L. Armstrong, 93, “Aunt Edie” to her friends and family, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Fox Nursing Home.

She was born July 12, 1923, in South Kortright, the daughter of Angelo and Rafaela (Dragone) Laterra.

Edith married Harold Armstrong on Oct. 31, 1988, in Oneonta.

She was a graduate of Oneonta High School and worked as a key punch operator for New York State in Albany for 15 years.

Edith was a lifelong area resident, living at Goodyear Lake for the past 55 years.  She was best known as “Aunt Edie” by all of her many friends and neighbors.

Edith was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oneonta, American Legion Auxiliary, Disabled Veterans Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and the Civil Service Employees Association.

Aunt Edie touched many people in her life.  She was a very giving and loving person.  She enjoyed being around her friends and family.  She was also a great sports fan and enjoyed very much following college basketball and NFL football with her close friends.

She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marie Laterra of Oneonta; nieces and nephews, Bruce Layman, Gloria Layman, Brian Layman and Michelle Halstead, all of Oneonta, Marie Baertschi, Doug Baertschi, Adam Baertschi and Jennifer France, all of Queensbury, Virginia Graver and Gary Graver, both of Oneonta, and Patty Nazzitto and John Nazzitto of Norwich.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harold Armstrong; her brothers, Sam Laterra and Carl (Shorty) Laterra, and sister-in-law, Freda Laterra; sisters, Josephine Laterra and Grace Burrows.

It was Aunt Edie’s wishes not to have a funeral service.  She wants everyone to remember her for being alive.  Aunt Edie was not afraid of death.  She lived a rewarding life.  She will have a special place in Heaven united with her family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Aunt Edie’s life 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 21, at Brooks’ House of BBQ, in The Roost Banquet Hall, 5560 State Highway 7, Oneonta.

Donations in loving memory of Aunt Edie may be made to, Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820.
