IN MEMORIAM: Elizabeth P. Kump, 97;

Retired From Career As AT&T Operator

ONEONTA – Elizabeth P. Kump, 97, who retired to Oneonta after 30 years as an AT&T telephone operator in New York City, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2016, at Fox Nursing Home.

She was born Jan. 15, 1919, in Rahway, N.J., the daughter of Matthew and Louise (Matzelle) Kump.

After a career at AT&T, she moved to Oneonta, where her sister and brother-in-law, Madeline and George Seger, reside.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Church and of The Third Order of the Society of St. Francis.

In addition to her sister and brother-in-law, she is survived by nieces and nephews, Virginia and Phil Fireci, George and Anne Seger, Christopher Seger, Nancy Seger, Claire and Jim O’Connor; and Mary Lou and Maryellen Seger; and many great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters and brothers, Louise, Mary, George and Albert; as well as a niece Madlyn.

A funeral mass will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18, at St. Mary’s Church, 39 Walnut Street, Oneonta, with Rev. David Mickiewicz, officiating.  Friends are invited to greet the family beginning at 1 pm on Tuesday, at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St, Oneonta.

Burial will take place at a later date in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Emmons.

In lieu of flowers, donations are asked to be made to the St. Mary’s Church Food Pantry.
