Artifacts From Team’s Victory To Be Displayed

COOPERSTOWN – Little League World Series champion team from Maine-Endwell, near Binghamton, will be recognized at a 1 p.m. ceremony this Sunday in the Hall of Plaques.

The Maine-Endwell team, champions of Little League’s Mid-Atlantic region, defeated a team from Seoul, South Korea, 2-1 in the LLWS championship game Aug. 28 in South Williamsport, Pa.

The win marked the last of 24 straight games without a loss for the team from adjoining Binghamton-area towns with a combined population of fewer than 20,000. The worldwide tournament started this summer with about 7,500 teams vying for the title.

Team members and coaches will be welcomed by Hall of Fame President Jeff Idelson. Earlier this year, the team donated a signed baseball and a team photo to the Museum’s collection, both of which are now on exhibit in the Museum.

Maine-Endwell became the first team from New York State to win the Little League World Series title since a team from Staten Island in 1964. Maine-Endwell also became the first team to win the Jack Losch Little League Baseball World Series Sportsmanship Award in the same season that it won the overall title.
