ONEONTA – State Sen. Jim Seward, R-Milford, at 7 p.m. tomorrow will announce a special state grant to build a new fire station in Mount Vision in memory of a fallen firefighter.

The local firefighters had been raising funds for the new station in memory of Adam Burgess, first assistant chief, who was struck by a tree and killed while working near Fly Creek.

Chief James Cox and members of the Mount Vision Fire Department will be on hand for the announcement.

Adam was an active member of the fire department since the age of 16. Adam died at a young age of 27 years old. He left behind his parents and fiancé he was going to marry in October 2016.

  1. I went to college with Adam, and he was just the nicest guy, open minded and helpful, laid back and kind. I’m glad he was doing something that he loved, but its still a bummer that he passed away, too many of the good ones lose their lives. Positive thoughts go to his fiancée and family for their loss.
