From Oneonta Of The 1880s

Mrs. Adams (Abbey Koutnik), wife of the proprietor of Oneonta’s Central Hotel in the 1880s, shares the news of that day with attendees at this evening’s annual dinner of the Greater Oneonta Historical Society at Toscana’s restaurant. The Oneonta Normal School’s building had just burned (Dr. James Milne, president of the future SUNY Oneonta, soon rebuilt it), women had won the right to vote in New Zealand, and Mrs. Adams confessed to walking around the block when her husband smoked an after-dinner cigar.    A chorus of “America the Beautiful” by all present ended the evening.   The audience included GOHS members Molly Swain, center, and Wayne Gregory, right.
