IN MEMORIAM: Lysle M. Parker, 90;
Noted Farmer, Lifelong Basketball Fan
EDMESTON – Lysle M. Parker, 90, a dairy farmer, and avid basketball player at Edmeston Central who was a life-long fan of the game, passed away on Friday, May 26, 2017, in Little Falls.
Lysle was born on Oct. 12, 1926 in New Berlin, the son of the late Maurice and Grace Meeker Parker, and grew up on South Street. He was a graduate of Edmeston Central School, where he was an avid basketball player. He played for several town teams, and traveled throughout the area.
Even recently, Lysle would watch as much basketball as he could. He knew the facts, and statistics on most players in the NBA.
Following graduation, Lysle moved to his grandmother’s farm to help her, and eventually bought the family farm. He ran the dairy farm for decades, and was one of the few state licensed breeders of dairy heifers. He was also known for his meticulous care of his home and farm.
Lysle was an experienced deer hunter, and had many fond memories of his hunting seasons in Maine, and on the Schoellig Farm.
On Nov. 12, 1966, Lysle married the love of his life, Betty Hager. He loved his wife dearly, and visited her daily in the nursing home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by step-daughter Debra (Bob) Brunschmid of Sherburne, and best friends Dan and Dee Schoellig of West Burlington.
Calling hours are 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, May 31,
at the Delker & Terry Funeral Home 30 South St., Edmeston. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at the funeral home, with Pastor Jay Henderson of the Burlington Flats Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Edmeston Union Cemetery.
