ONEONTA – The funeral mass is tomorrow for Lloyd F. Baker, 94, revered former Oneonta principal and football coach whose 1960 team was the only one unbeaten and untied in school history; the football field is named in his honor.  He passed away Thursday, April 26, at Bassett Hospital.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1923 in Granby, Fulton County, the son of Ezra and Viola (Colville) Baker. He married Elizabeth Sawyer on Jan. 12, 1944. She predeceased him on Sept. 22, 2007.

Lloyd attended Cortland State from September 1942 until January 1943, when he left to serve in the Army during World War II. Receiving the rank of captain in the Army Air Corps, he piloted B-24s and was honorably discharged in November 1945.
