IN MEMORIAM: Burnett Southworth, 89;
Ph.D. Had Career As Chemist, Consultant
COOPERSTOWN – Burnett C. Southworth, 89, a Ph.D. who pursued a career in analytical chemistry, of Cooperstown died Friday, July 27, 2018.
He graduated from East Springfield High School in 1946 and later from Union College. He attained a master’s degree and Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. After 40 years in corporate work, he developed his own consulting business, which he ran until his retirement around 1995.
Burr was a longtime member of Christ Church, Cooperstown, where he served on vestry and as a lay reader, chalice bearer, and Eucharistic visitor.
Burnett is survived by his wife of 67 years, Caroline (“Carrie”); his sister, Mary S. Clarke; a sister-in-law, Venita K. Southworth; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son, Paul E. Southworth; his sister, Carol S. Johnson; and his brother, Nathan T. Southworth.
A memorial service with reception following will be held Saturday, August 4 at 11:00 am at Christ Church, with The Rev. Dane E. Boston, Celebrant.
