Betty Joan King

UNADILLA — Betty Joan King, 90, who with her husband ran the Country Motel here for 30 years, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2018.

Betty was born on Dec. 15, 1927, in Brooklyn, daughter of the late Harry and Marie (Geiger) Maguire. Betty was very proud of her education, attending PS 45 Elementary School in Brooklyn, and graduating from Our Lady of Wisdom Academy.

On March 26, 1950, she was married to Robert J. King in Cambria Heights.

They lived in Bayshore, Long Island, for many years, while she worked for AT&T and as a Welcome Wagon hostess. They relocated to the Tri-Town Area in 1978, where together, they owned and operated the Country Motel for three decades.

Betty was a gifted photographer, and a member of the BPW in Sidney. Betty and Bob enjoyed traveling the world together, with her favorite trips being to Alaska and China.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Andrea and Russell McIntyre of Sidney; son Wayne Robert King of Sidney; four grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Baker and their son, Harrison; Brendon King (Janet Bissett) and their children Maddex and Zirus, and Jordan King and Shane Tarr, all of Sidney; two sisters, Kathy Maguire and Barbara Maguire, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband Robert on March 4, 2015, after 64 years of marriage. She was also predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Carol King, and a granddaughter, Hope Baker.

Friends are invited to call from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral chapel with Rev. Larry Bailey officiating. Betty will be laid to rest beside Robert in the Gerald B.H. Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga at a later date.
